LOUIS VUITTON X YAYOI KUSAMA

Evening readers!

What better way to start off the week, than with fashion news. Louis Vuitton has brought @YayoiKusama on board for their most recent collection. But before I present the collection look-book to you all, let's answer the most important question: Who is Yayoi Kusama?
Yayoi Kusama, rural Japanese artist, is not a stranger when it comes to American art. She entered the American art industry in the 1960s when @RoyLichtenstein & @AndyWarhol claimed their reign. At those times, she was known for her performance art that involved nude performers, phallic-shaped sculptures and most importantly, dots. She found dots surreal and mysterious - her personal medicine. Which brings us to where we are today!
After having fled the New York Art Scene in the 1970s, she admitted herself into a mental institution - some of our greatest minds, are often cursed with a mind that cannot be tamed. It was not until 2006, that @MarcJacobs, the art enthusiast that he is, met with Kusama in her personal studio in Tokyo. After their meeting with one another, sparks were flying and genius was brewing. Jacobs, the creative director at @LouisVuitton, began the collaboration with Kusama for their most recent collection. The Kusama collaboration began as an intimate tale of obsession and surreality - with all these dots taking over the collection, Kusama&Jacobs have told a very intimate tale, indeed.
Since Jacobs has been appointed as creative director, he has given birth to some of the greatest collaborations with Louis Vuitton and avant-garde artists. It is through Jacobs, that we open our eyes to the intriguing mind of Yayoi Kusama and many others before her, such as @StephenSprouse. After reviewing the look-book, I developed a new perspective on "dots" and most importantly, fell in love with the consistency of the entire campaign! This is fashion - wearable art that continues to exist in our every day lives.

Check out the images yourself. What do you think of the most recent Vuitton collection - yay or nay?

The wonderful Yayoi Kusama.

I have seen her work many times, but never did I know who this wonderful artist was - thankfully, I do now.
