DIY: WATER MARBLE NAILS

Good evening lovelies!

For our hectic schedules and this summer weather, we need that one day of the week that we dedicate to pampering ourselves - Sunday Beauty Fundays! This Sunday, I wanted to explore a nail-art trend that has recently caught my eye: Water Marble Nails!
This type of nail art is fast, easy and inexpensive. With this method you can have the polished look of patterned nails without having to pay the high price of nail salons. And this past weekend, I found out that this is the perfect little diy for you to share with your younger sisters, nieces, daughters or even the darlings you babysit!

Here is how you can get that expensive look for less!

Time: 15 - 30 minutes

  1. Gather your materials. For this diy, you will need office tape, a full cup of water, a toothpick, napkins, a base color nail polish, some accent color nail polishes, Q-Tips and nail polish remover.
  2. Apply 1-2 coats of your base color. This base color will help the marble accent colors stand out. For the base, you can pick any color but I suggest white, grey or black since they will provide the most contrast for those lovely bright summer colors!
  3. Tape around the border of your nails. Remember, the more precise you are with taping, the less cleaning you will have to do at the end. This can be a very messy procedure.
  4. Marble Time! Careful - This step must be performed quickly (1-2 min). Depending on what order you want, add one drop of the accent polishes into the cup of water. You will see the drop float and begin to spread out. Do this one by one with each color. Using your toothpick, lightly touch the surface of the polish/water to create a desired pattern. Once the pattern is obtained, dip your finger into the pattern with the nail facing down (nail facing the pattern). Keep your finger in the water and with the toothpick clean the excess polish. Once cleaned, you can pull you finger out and allow the polish to dry. Repeat this whole step for each nail.
  5. Allow your nails to dry. The drying time should be 5-10 minutes.
  6. Remove tape. Once nails are dry, remove the tape. You will see that there is little to no clean-up required.
  7. Clean the edges. Take your Q-Tip and dip it into the nail polish remover. With the soaked Q-Tip, carefully begin cleaning the nail edges to remove excess polish from the marbling process.
  8. Optional - Apply top coat. If you desire that longer-lasting look, apply a top coat to lessen the chipping. Allow the top coat to dry 5-10 minutes. Once dry, clean up your work station and show off those wonderful nails!

That sums up today's beauty feature: Water Marble Nails! If you try this at home, feel free to submit your personal attempts and/or suggestions at grdnarasic2@gmail.com!

Love be with you,

My base coat has been applied, dried and prepped for marbling!

Be sure to tape around all the edges of your nail.
This process can be quite messy.
The more precise with your tape, the less you will have to clean.

Taping all of your nails at once is strongly suggested.
The actual marbling step must be performed quickly because the polish can dry fast.
This will save you time and make the process flow more smoothly!

Here is the pattern I created with my accent colors & toothpick!

As you can see, the nail polish is all over the place!
Thankfully, my office tape saved the day.

Tape has been removed & edges have been cleaned!
My finished look.

My first ever attempt with water-marbling.
With these nails, I love that there is no such thing as "wrong"!
